Goal of the Smart Bin
I’ll introduce our project which is called “The smart bin”.
Our project consists of making a bin that opens and closes automatically when placing your feet under the motion detector located in the center of the front of the trash can.
In addition, green, orange and red LED lights will be placed on the left side of the trash which will indicate how filled it is.
These lights will be clearly visible and will alert the user when to replace the bag inside the trash can.
Once the first prototype put in place will be validated, we will realize a second model of the same type in order to be able recycle the waste and place it in the correct bins.
To achieve this, diverse skills will be necessary such as:
– Coding skills in python for the raspberry
– Mechanics skills for the installation of servomotors on garbage cans
– Skills to enable the assembly of the different elements between them
– Focus and thought
– And management skills to be able to work as team and to split the work equally
In conclusion, the main purpose of this smart bin is to be able to place items in it without making the trashcan dirty while opening it, especially when our hands are full.
This automatic sensor opening and closing also helps avoid bad odors as it keeps the hood closed.
